Bug Description

i searched in google for this problem and it seems many people
have it, even though i couldn't find anyone who reported it here.
the problem is when i type 'sudo pppoeconf' and configure
my connection to connect in boot time, it does not
save the configuration, and every time i restart my computer i have
to run pppoeconf all over again in order to have my internet connection
set up again (after restart it does not connect automatically to the internet, and also 'pon dsl-provider' doesn't work.

i have no idea what can be done...

I've got it too but when I wait a few time (about 10 minutes) and I restart my computer, the connection is sometimes working.

I am having the same problem with edgy. When I use pon dsl-provider it just times out. It can not do the PADS discovery. I can not do the pppoeconf again because it does not find my connection. I can use my modem just fine in OS 10.4.8 though so I know this is a problem with linux only.

I suffer from the same thing. After every boot I have to run 'sudo pppoeconf' to let it check for access concentrators. Only then pon dsl-provider connects me successfully.

What is weird about it:

I Experienced this in Breezy, it went away in Dapper and is now happening again in Edgy.

try using this application, it worked for me.

(after installing it click on "restart connection" whenever you want to connect).

I, personally, don't have this problem anymore, I think it vanished when I did a distribution upgrade - now running feisty. However, since the problem seems to occur randomly, this does not necessarily mean that it's entirely gone.

I had this problem with Ubuntu but thanks to the Ubuntu's french forum, my problem was resolved by selecting the option "Zeroconf" in the Network menu.

Joel, as the original reporter of this bug, is this still an issue for you in the latest development release of Ubuntu, 8.04 Hardy? If so, please reopen this bug.

Thanks!
