Bug Description

On this Dell 5150, powernowd requires manual modprobing of speedstep_ich before
it works.

The cpu is a "Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.06GHz"

Let me know if there's any other info you need...

I could have sworn on hoary it used to load the right module, but it definitely
is broken now.

cpufreq-detect.sh
Intel\(R\)\ Pentium\(R\)\ 4\ Mobile\ CPU*)
MODULE=speedstep-centrino$EXT ;;

/proc/cpuinfo
model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 Mobile CPU 1.60GHz

Definitely isn't a centrino, so it fails.

Hello, could you paste the output from:

  cat /proc/iports

please.

There's no such thing as /proc/iports on this box (running 2.6.10, Hoary).
/proc/ioports, though, contains:
