Bug Description

Hi,

Information on the web site is a little bit outdated.

$ curl http://popcon.ubuntu.com/ 2> /dev/null | grep 'Last generated'
Made by <a href="mailto:<email address hidden>"> The Ubuntu Web Team </a>.
Last generated on Fri Jul 6 10:55:54 2012 UTC. <br>

$ curl -I http://popcon.ubuntu.com/by_inst.gz | grep 'Last-Modified'
Last-Modified: Fri, 06 Jul 2012 10:54:16 GMT

And etc...

Few days ago I sent email to <email address hidden>, but there is no reaction.

I open this bug report here, because as we can see in #495951 ubuntu website
team doesn't have access to popcon.ubuntu.com.

Could you fix this web service or contact with its owners?

Best regards,
Boris

Hi,

Let's see to <http://popcon.ubuntu.com/>:

1) Quotation from description (top part of main page):
   "Every day the server anonymizes the results and publishes this survey."
2) Last generated on Thu Dec 20 19:38:22 2012 UTC. (lower part of main page)
3) Today is 04 Apr 2013.

So it does not look that this web service works as expected.
Unlike <http://popcon.debian.org/>, which works perfectly.

Frozen, again, since Wed Jun 22 15:09:05 2016 UTC and my bug report(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/popularity-contest/+bug/1711420/comments/2) has been marked as 'invalid'.

Has this become a 'small-toe' evolutionarily abandoned tool?

It's getting updated, but I'm sure it's wrong:

There must be less i386 Ubuntu users than amd64 Ubuntu users that have popularity-contest installed and activated!

Agreed. And with the latest versions of Ubuntu proper collecting telemetry at first login, I wonder if this tool should simply be removed from the archives or is somebody still using it for development purposes?

I think it‘s safe to assume that this old Debian tool is going to be removed.
