Bug Description

Binary package hint: evince

Using hardy, all updated.

Some suppliers send me invoices in PDF form. They always opened ok in Acrobat on Vista. Evince on Hardy seems to be struggling. Command line output from evince shows:

Error: Couldn't find a font for '(unnamed)'
some font thing failed
Error: Couldn't find a font for '(unnamed)'
some font thing failed
Error: Couldn't find a font for '(unnamed)'
some font thing failed
Error: Couldn't find a font for '(unnamed)'
some font thing failed
Error: Couldn't find a font for '(unnamed)'
some font thing failed

The PDF displays blank with only the company logo showing.

I tried installing msttcorefonts but it does not help.

Is there anyway I can email it to one/both of you without posting it publicly. I wouldn't mind normally but it's a company invoice.

Many thanks.

right, that's more like a poppler issue and likely a dup one, thanks.

Okay. Typing this from the Intrepid CD :)

Still doesn't work I'm afraid. Getting the same helpful error messages:
"
Error: Couldn't find a font for '(unnamed)'
some font thing failed
"

could you either send the bug to bugs.freedesktop.org where people writting the software will read it or attach an example to the bug?

Hi, I seem to have a similar problem with the pdf files. I work at a Cisco Academy and all our student certificates are in pdf format. The older pdf files used to open fine with evince, but it seems somewhere along the line Cisco is using a newer pdf generator and all it shows is a few lines of text at the bottom of the certificates. xpdf opens it fine but i like to see previews of the pdf. It used to work.

thanks

Hi I've posted yesterday, but what i discovered was that if you press control A (to select all) inside a pdf document that does not display text properly, then you can see all the missing Info! hope that helps with the mystery.

Thanks for the workaround. I switched to Okular for these cases.
