Hi junaid and others affected by this bug! I just tested this using the latest Software Center version 5.2.2.2 (and associated packages) in 12.03 and I found that the auth dialog password field is in fact focused after clicking to install a package. Therefore it seems to me that this bug is fixed in 12.04 now.

Could you please test this with your 12.04 machine fully updated to verify that this is now working, and report back here?

Many thanks for your help!
Gary

I think this is a duplicate of a bug report about the authentication dialog not being modal to the USC window, which is because PolicyKit (and Aptdaemon, probably) lacks an API for declaring that the USC window is the parent window of the dialog, which in turn is because upstream rejected that idea and we didn't have the time to override them. Bug 420641 is similar, but not the one I'm thinking of.
