1. Run the update manger,
2. Click somewhere outside the window to make it inactive,
3. While inactive click on the "Check" button.
What happens: the auth dialog pops up (in "always on top" mode) without gaining focus while the update manager window gets active. Sounds like a focus race which definitely should be won by the auth dialog.

I reported this against update-manager at first (https:/ /bugs.launchpad .net/ubuntu/ +source/ update- manager/ +bug/449594 - now marked invalid) but on a second thought this bug report seems to be a better place.
