Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

package: gnome-system-tools 2.30.0

Affected: time-admin and other parts of gnome-system-tools which uses the "lock"-icon between the "Help"- and "Close" Buttons. (Are they using Policikit?)
Theese items have their width calculated as one-third of width of their parent view. At least in german this leads to an undesirable behaviour. Unauthenticated the time and date-window is 660px wide (too wide for my taste). But authorized this window becomes 1000px wide! This is ridiculous.
Maybe it is a bette idea to place the "Lock"-Butten and its Label above the "Close"- and "Help"-Button. Depending the width of theese two buttons on the width of a text label isn't a good idea.
I think changing the size of a dialog as a result of changing a text label is not a good idea also.

Yeah, I've reported this long time ago upstream, so far no reply. The message should really be made shorter (using French here). But one of the solutions is to get rid of these buttons, just like users-admin in Lucid. ;-)

The reason why we can't fix that in the application itself is that button boxes don't allow buttons to have different widths. So we would have to use a terrible hack, of fix GTK. IMO it's better to improve the button itself.

I see. Does the "Lock"-button and label have to be in this button box? What if the PolkitlockButton is moved above? Or make this button more descriptive with less text? Or move the label elsewhere?
