Bug Description

Binary package hint: policykit-1-gnome

After clicking the authorization button in some system admin screens (time and date, users and groups, etc.), the password dialog appears on top of the admin screen but has no focus. This forces the user to click on the password dialog with the mouse or [alt]-[tab] to it with the keyboard.

This bug exists on karmic and lucid.

It seems to be fixed now. Can you confirm ?

I can confirm it's fixed for the "time and date" screen, but I'm still experiencing the issue on the "Users and Groups" screen. When clicking on the "Advanced Settings" button on the "Users and Groups" screen, the window retains focus while the password dialog is displayed over the top.

I am also testing with policykit-1-gnome 0.96-2ubuntu2.

The first time I tried today after booting into the VM, it appeared as normal. Every subsequent test (opening "Users and Groups" and clicking the "Advanced Settings" button) had the password dialog appearing on top without focus.

The same happened after I rebooted the VM and tested again. During the testing, I never actually authenticated by typing in the password. I only ever clicked "Cancel" on the password dialog window.

Ok, I was able to reproduce it. However, It seems to happen differently than you: on the first time the password dialog appeared on top without focus, and every subsequent time it gained focus.

I think that depends on the window manager that is used. With GNOME Shell (i.e. Mutter), I get this issue all the time.

Changed in policykit-1-gnome (Ubuntu):

I get it here in lucid, amd64 (gnome). Haven't checked specifically which auths will reproduce.

It happens on fresh Oneiric, too, all the time. Gnome classic, amd64.
Very annoying.

This is present on Oneiric with focus follows mouse. I haven't tested it in any other situation.
