Was able to get past this error by removing reconnect = 1 from the list of MySQLdb.connect params on lines 63 and 123 of file /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/pokernetwork/pokerdatabase.py

I assume the version of MySQLdb packaged in this distribution is different from the one originally used with this python package.
