Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.15

Just installed Ubuntu 6.06 running live-cd on 12" powerbook. After enabling suspend in gnome-power-manager, invoking it only fades the screen to black, then immidiately returns.

dmesg reports "Sleep mode not supported on this machine"

System information (from /proc/cpuinfo):
machine: Powerbook6,8
motherboard: PowerBook6,8 MacRISC3 Power Macintosh
detected as: 287 (PowerBook G4 12")

Let me know if/how I can give any more information on the issue.

Can you test this on Edgy RC so we can see if this problems still exists?

Confirmed on 12" PowerBook, with up-to-date Edgy kernel as below.

/proc/version

Definitely happening for me as well. Same /proc/version. 2nd gen 12" G4 laptop (the one with the mini-DVI connector).

I can confirm this problem on my 12'' Powerbook G4 1.5ghz (with Nvidia Geforce card) also. I tried modifying the values in pbbuttonsd.conf from suspend_to_ram to suspend_to_disk. This has no effect. Currently if I close the lid or try to suspend from the gnome power button menu it locks the screen and asks for a password to get back into the session. If I logout and select options->hibernate it asks if I want to hibernate, I click yes, and then it does nothing.

Can also confirm on a 12" G4 1.5ghz nvidia, same /proc/version as Erik, same dmesg message

This bug is still an issue for me. If someone can give me some directions to try to debug this, I would be glad to follow them.

I am running Gutsy on a Powerbook G4. In Gutsy the hibernate and suspend options have disappeared from the lougout menu.

I have attached the output of gnome-power-bugreport.sh.

I have tried to hibernate using the dbus-send command given in DebuggingGNOMEPowerManager. It has no effect. I have also tried 'gnome-power-cmd.sh hibernate', which returns:
Hibernating
Error org.freedesktop.PowerManagement.NoHardwareSupport: Hibernate is not available on this computer

I also tried to do 'sudo pbbcmd hibernate' without any effect.

I have compiled the latest version of pbbuttonsd (0.8.1a), but still no luck.
I have attached the debug output of pbbuttonsd when trying to hibernate.

I'm using two tiny scripts for hibernate in Debian, pbbuttonsd isn't needed, pm-utils can handle it:

 http://honk.sigxcpu.org/con/Suspend_to_Disk_with_a_Apple_Powerbook_G4_12_.html

Maybe this helps. Gnome-power-manager forbidding hibernate altogether seems to be a different issue though, maybe there's a Ubuntu specific file forbidding it in /usr/share/hal/fdi?

The system should indicate that it can hibernate via:
 power_management.can_hibernate = true
in the lshal output.

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.
