On an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ the Hibernate function does not work, using Jaunty 9.04. Did not check other versions/distros. When going to sleep it reports repeatedly the message:

Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information.

Next time this happens,
Iif Possible,
can you switch to a text console by hitting
CTRL + ALT + F1, login there, and then run
apport-collect -p linux 366927

This will gather a lot of debugging information related to your issue.
To run apport-collect you may need to install the package python-launchpadlib
(apt-get install pythonplaunchpadlib)

Thanks in advance
