Can you attach the output of the dmesg command after an attempt at hibernating?

Is it a problem, that I have 1 GB RAM and just 256 MB Swap?

Matthew Garrett (mjg59) wrote :

Yes. Hibernate will not work unless you have more swap than RAM.

I'll make my SWAP bigger, but I thing hibernate.sh should check this and write a
proper errormessage.

OK, I have now 5 GB SWAP and 1 GB RAM. But still the same error.

If you try with the latest kernel (2.6.12-9), does hibernation still fail and if
so can you attach the output of the dmesg command?

dmesg with kernel 2.6.12-9-686-smp

hibernate.sh does not just starts the screensaver anymore, but just set the
screen in power-save mode. Now I habe to reset the PC to get back. :(

hibernate-test.sh with some echos

I've added some echos to the hibernate.sh, enamed it to hibernate-test.sh and
started it with "hibernate-test.sh > test.txt"

I'm afraid that we need the output of dmesg after a failed hibernate in order to
be able to debug this. If you edit /etc/default/acpi-support and change the
USE_DPMS line to

USE_DPMS=false

do you get any useful looking output?

This is the last thing I see before the monitor goes to the powersave mode

I've just tested it with the -386 kernel (Normally I use the smp kernel.) and
the suspend to disk looked fine, but the wake up doesn't work. The PC made a
restart just after decompressing the memory.

You don't have a swap partition, so hibernation won't work out of the box.
