Plymouth not showing on shutdown/restart

Binary package hint: plymouth

Plymouth is showing at boot (though in 640x480 mode), but at shutdown I only see a purple bar at the bottom of the screen, the rest is black and there is some flickering inbetween.

which version of plymouth do you have?
You can check this by running in a terminal the command
apt-cache policy plymouth

I am using plymouth 0.8.2-2ubuntu2 and have the same issue.

Though I must admit that I made changes to /etc/default/grub and /etc/grub/00_header to get a resolution of 1280x1024 with the binary Nvidia driver.

Exactly the same issue on shutdown. Using plymouth 0.8.2-2ubuntu2. Changed grub to 1280x800 and using the proprietary nvidia driver.

Uninstalled the nvidia driver, now I get the shutdown screen for 1-2 sec.
