The ubuntu-logo and ubuntu-text themes are very different; if ubuntu-text works, and ubuntu-logo does not, that implies a fault with the renderer.

Could you try one of the other graphical themes (e.g. plymouth-theme-spinfinity) and see whether it works or fails with that
