Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

If I press <Enter> key after Xorg loading, it`s restart and back to gdm login screen. I tried turn off autologin, but nothing changes. Some times (8 boots of 10) i can`t view X desktop - only mouse cursor (it`s work when i move it) and text-mode cursor on top-left corner of black screen. Pressing keys out various symbols on screen (like in text-mode). If I switch to another console (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and back to tty7 I can view normal GUI desktop and I can work normally until not use <Enter> key. In all cases (every boot) after press <Enter> key Xorg crash and back to gdm login screen. After first crush Xorg works fine until next boot.
P.S. Sorry, my English is very bad.

I can also confirm this on Debian Squeeze, from various users with different hardware, with different Window Managers.

Pressing the Enter key about 5-10 minutes after logging in via Gdm causes an automatic logout to Gdm.

It has happened in the terminal, on Iceweasel, Firefox, Arora.

Points to a broken xorg update as it didn't happen before the update.

Thanks for reporting this bug to help making the -ati graphics driver
better. We hear from upstream that a number of bugs (possibly including
this one) have been fixed in the newer DRM code from the 2.6.33 kernel.
I don't know if your bug is one of the ones fixed in this release,
though, but we've prepared a PPA with this DRM update. Would you mind
installing this, rebooting, and testing if the original issue can be
reproduced with it or not?

The DRM PPA is here:

    https://edge.launchpad.net/~apw/+archive/red

Note there could be new bugs... please file these as new reports using
the command 'ubuntu-bug linux' (for kernel or DRM or KMS bugs) or
'ubuntu-bug xorg' if you suspect them to be X.org issues.

Affects me also. It is not nescassery the first Enter that logs you out, but it is quite certain to happen within 5 to 10 minutes from logging totally independent which software i am using (OO, Gedit, FFox, ...)

My Lucid & Xorg runs with radeon-driver. I Guess it is an xorg or radeon issue, not a kernel issue.
My current kernel is 2.6.32-16 and X.Org X Server 1.7.5 and Module radeon, module version = 6.12.19

Today's updates changed the system behaviour during boot:
Fsck output is shown (as previously, but not reported before) but no splash.
Then gdm starts just fine and I'm able to login normally.
"Switch off" splash is shown.
