If you need to disable screen rotation as a workaround then there is a button for that in the top-right menu in Gnome Shell.

It sounds like the main problem then is actually during boot then. Would you like this bug to focus on that or some other problem after booting?

Could you maybe take a video showing the issue? The boot/plymouth theme is supposed to keep the vendor logo on screen, is that part working?

Daniel van Vugt (vanvugt) wrote :

I expect that part isn't working, and isn't easily fixable... This is a tablet and some tablets commonly have a native screen orientation of portrait so that's probably what Plymouth is using.

When the gnome-shell login screen starts it detects the correct orientation and automatically rotates to landscape. So the issue sounds like Plymouth not supporting sensors/screen rotation. Not a very common issue...

Changed in plymouth (Ubuntu):
status: Incomplete → New

Daniel van Vugt (vanvugt) wrote :

Even if we did fix Plymouth to support rotation to landscape it might still look a little wrong. Because the BIOS still displays its logo in portrait mode, and then it would suddenly rotate to landscape at Plymouth. That's not very much better than the current situation of the rotation occuring at the login screen.
