Please run 'apport-collect 1343841' from the affected virtual machine.

This is probably due to a lack of KMS-compatible video drivers in the VM.

Forcing plymouth to use framebaffer helped in Trusty. Framebuffer no longer works in Utopic's alphas, nor setting video options for grub/plymouth early boot.

I am also experiencing this issue, Plymouth doesn't display text or logo themes at boot. I see this on VirtualBox and Thinkpad X61s with integrated Intel graphics.

@shijing Please do as Steve Langsek asked and run 'apport-collect 1343841' from an affected computer.
