Please run 'apport-collect 1343841' from the affected virtual machine.

This is probably due to a lack of KMS-compatible video drivers in the VM.

@Steve
On HP-Pavilion-sleekbook-15 laptops , there is also the boot animation does not show

and lenovo desktop ,does not appear either.

Steve Langasek (vorlon) wrote :

I still need the apport data from an affected install.

Forcing plymouth to use framebaffer helped in Trusty. Framebuffer no longer works in Utopic's alphas, nor setting video options for grub/plymouth early boot.

Martin Wimpress (flexiondotorg) wrote :

I am also experiencing this issue, Plymouth doesn't display text or logo themes at boot. I see this on VirtualBox and Thinkpad X61s with integrated Intel graphics.

@shijing Please do as Steve Langsek asked and run 'apport-collect 1343841' from an affected computer.

On my system (Dell latitude D420) with Intel GMA945, I needed to set Plymouth to use the framebuffer AND to disable vt.handoff in /etc/grub.d/10_linux .

Ivan Larionov (xeron-oskom) wrote :

Same for me, monitor just goes to sleep mode if "vt.handoff=7" is in place. Desktop with nVidia 650Ti, nouveau driver.

And it was working in 14.04 without any changes to kernel cmdline.
