Bug Description

Binary package hint: plasma-widget-networkmanagement

With knetworkmanager I can create a vpn connections and it saves correctly. But nothing happens when I click the icon for vpnc connection. It just stays the same as it is and would not connect. My karmic us fully updated as of the latest.

Hello,

I saw in another bugmail that you have discontinued your use of Kubuntu. We were wondering if you would still be able to provide information about this bug (for example if the KDE4 KNetworkManager is being used by Arch Linux) or if we should close the bug as unpursuable.

Thanks in advance.

I am using knetworkmanager in arch also. Here also the behavior is same nothing happens on clicking the vpn connection icon. My only guess is that knetworkmanager enables you to setup and configure vpnc connections but don't allow to connect at all(pretty much stupid) .

Though I changed distro I am willing to provide any information you need.

Same here! Can set the variables in the vpn dialog under this widget but the icon afterwards cannot be clicked (and the connection cannot be made). (using vpnc not OpenVpn).

I'm running a fresh Kubuntu 9.10 64 bit install. I can also confirm this bug. The installed version I have is .9~svn1029786. Same as others, I can config a VPNC connection, the option shows up, but I cannot enable it. I tried installing the VPNC package as it isn't included by default, rebooted, and still no luck.

I had the same problem. Is the package "network-manager-vpnc" installed?
If not, install it and restart (!!!) Kubuntu. -> The vpnc connection should work now.
My current problem is that knetworkmanager doesn't show that the connection is established. I click on my VPN in the context menu of the tray icon and nothing happens visually. The VPN is working though. (I'll open a new bug for this...)

Florian Sonnenberger, I have a netbook with that package installed since the first days "by precaution" was necessary ... and not works, no VPN connection in my university (I'm forced to open a terminal and execute the cisco client).

javielillo, in order to help you we need more information about the problem.
Could you please:
1. Make sure that you have an internet connection so that the client can connect to your university
2. Start the VPN connection in knetworkmanager
3. Wait 10 seconds
4. Open the file /var/log/daemon.log
-- Near the end of the file there should be some lines that contain "NetworkManager:" or "vpnc:"
5. Copy these lines in a new comment in this bug report

Important: If there are login names, passwords, or secret IP adresses in these lines, replace them with something different.

BTW, this is also for the other posters in this thread. Please provide the logfile-lines so that we can identify the problem.

I installed network-manager-vpnc (and have vpnc and kvpnc installed). Rebooted, and now when I click the VPNC profile I set up, KDE Wallet prompted me for my password. I received no further prompts, and I do not have my VPNC password saved (it is from a DES token, so it cannot be) but I do have my group password saved. The VPN is obviously not working as it cannot finish authentication without my DES password.

Still no indication or prompts when I click the VPN profile from the pop up menu. Right click options are still grayed out.

if I click the vpn connection in the GUI.
