Reason for merging this so late in the release cycle is that the current version in Ubuntu, 5.5.4, has a set of known bugs and does not use AppStream metadata. Since Ubuntu is switching to GNOME Software this cycle, which uses AppStream, and the app-install-data data the old plasma-discover uses is heavily outdated, it is encouraged to update plasma-discover to use the new, up-to-date data.
