I meanwhile added some debug output to KDisplayManager, and the problem apparently is this:
SDseat.property("CanMultiSession") = QVariant(Invalid)

(after the line "QVariant prop = SDseat.property("CanMultiSession");" in KDisplayManager::isSwitchable())
