Bug Description

It seems that ubuntu-desktop notification settings are in conflict with the plasma-desktop notification settings, especially when you try to set the pop-up position on screen.

The problem occurs when both ubuntu-desktop and plasma-desktop are installed.

It turns out that Plasma displays the ubuntu-style pop-up notifications, for example, when you type:

wall "test notification"

from console. The pop-up position is top-right as in Ubuntu desktop and not bottom-right as in Plasma. Also, its look (color, etc. is like in Ubuntu desktop). I was unable to change the position of the pop-up notification on screen.

In particular, this problem occured when I tried to set the notifications for new emails in Thunderbird. When I used the GNotifier add-on and set the notification engine for "standard" in its settings, the pop-up looked like in Plasma but its position was the upper-right corner as in Ubuntu desktop.

It was impossible to change the position of the pop-up by dragging it. Also, setting the position in Notifications Settings did not change anything (systray > Show Hidden Icons > Notifications (right-click) > Notifications Settings).

I also tried to use the ubuntu-desktop settings: Setting the pop-up position by notifyosdconfig did not help.

The problem disappeared when I uninstalled the following packages:

notifyosdconfig notify-osd ubuntu-desktop mate-notification-daemon-common

(also purged their configuration files). After restarting the Plasma desktop, the notification pop-ups finally show up at the correct position.

Kubuntu 17.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.9.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.31.0
Qt Version: 5.7.1
Kernel Version: 4.10.0-35-generic
OS Type: 64 bit

Hello gf,
I cannot confirm or deny.
I don't know whether this is still a problem because I use Kubuntu without these packages:
notifyosdconfig notify-osd ubuntu-desktop mate-notification-daemon-common, which I have deleted back then. So I can't check whether they still cause the problem.
Best regards,
Anuszka
