Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Changed in plasma-desktop (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

The same happens with KUbuntu 15.10 Wily Werwolf. Plasma is very unstable.
I tried to disable *all* Desktop Effects (System Settings; don't forget the "not supportet by compositor" and "internal" desktop effects!). So the plasmashell crashes occur only seldom.

With KUbuntu 16.04 plasmashell is still crashing with segmentation fault.
Check your ~/.config and ~/.cache for Root permissions. Change the permissions recursively to your username.
This might help.
You may also type these commands:
kbuildsycoca5 && kquitapp plasmashell && kstart plasmashell

No, I was wrong. That does not help. Plasmashell remains crashing.
