Bug Description

Hardy beta i386: alternate install
I used alternate cd to get a system install on raidtools meta-device (raid1)

DURING THE INSTALLATION:
I am expecting all the french packages to be installed when replying YES to the question:
"The install cdrom is to small to contain all the languages. Do you want to download the required language pack from the Internet"

A lot of french packages are installed, but 2 of them are missing:
language-pack-fr
language-pack-fr-base

It results in a mixed system, french and english... Very confusing for someone not speaking english.

Am I reporting the problem to the right place ? The installer just need few improvments !

Fred

Assuming that you have an installed system after encountering this bug, please attach /var/log/installer/syslog to this bug report. (You'll need to become root to get access to that file.)

Changed in debian-installer:

Hi Colin,

thanks for giving an eye to this problem.

The system is up and running.
Here is the file.

I used the alternate cd, and chose French at the new popup screen straight after the boot

Cheers

Similar problem with Hardy alternate rc1 CD.

After selecting German as language an answering YES to the question
if the required language files should be downloaded (connection to internet
was working) I now have an Ubuntu that is mixed German an English.

I think "language-pack-de" and "language-pack-de-base" had been forgotten
to be installed.

Since it's been a very long time since any additional info was added to this bug, I'm just checking to see if this is still an issue, and find out what additional work should be done on this bug.

Hello,

I had the opportunity to make the same install on the same hardware, with the same raidtools configuration, using alternate cd as well, with ubuntu 8.04.1.
And I have no more problem !!!
It seems that the problem was a beta problem and is no longer an issue.

This is the same problem as documented in bug 348393. I know that bug was filed later, but since it already has a diagnosis and the right bug status, I'll mark this one as a duplicate.

(The reason you couldn't duplicate it with 8.04.1 is that the French language pack happens to be on the i386 alternate install CD there; but, for instance, it isn't on the amd64 CD due to lack of space.)
