Bug Description

Binary package hint: python2.6

The version of pitivi currently in Intrepid isn't compatible with python2.6, due to it using "as" as a variable name (which 2.6 now picks up as a syntax error). The byte-compile stage of python2.6's installation fails when it encounters this error, causing the upgrade of python to fail and so causing many other packages to fail due to unmet python dependencies; this eventually causes the entire upgrade to stop when too many errors are encountered.

Either the pitivi package in Intrepid needs to be fixed and in someway force the package to be upgraded on a user's system prior to upgrading to Jaunty or Pitivi should be uninstalled prior to python 2.6 being installed.

Attached is the python2.6 install output from an apt-get dist-upgrade from Intrepid to Jaunty.

That's not the issue, python2.6 is installed when upgrading to Jaunty. If pitivi is installed this will cause the upgrade to fail.

I'm unsure if this is really a duplicate of #339312 as fixing that bug in Jaunty alone does not fix this issue. Pitivi won't be upgraded to the fixed Jaunty version until *after* python has been upgraded to 2.6, so the python 2.6 upgrade will still fail due to the incompatible version of Pitivi in Intrepid.
