Bug Description

Since upgrading to hardy, pigment flickers when run on an intel chipset. I can see this both on a dell laptop with a 855GM chipset and on a mac mini with a 945GM chipset, but not on a nvidia based desktop.

The effect seems to be worst when text is involved and can be seen both in the demonstrations scripts in /usr/share/doc/python-pgm/examples and when running elisa. Whether I'm having desktop effects enabled or not does not seem to make a difference.

It might be related, but the behaviour is different. #245383 seem to affect the whole screen regardless of what apps are running. This bug is just about pigment apps. When running the pigment in a window, only that window flickers. Also this bug happens only on intel chips, while #245383 seem to happen on nvidia, ati and intel chipsets.

I have posted a patch to upstream. It was successfully tested on a Mac mini with Ubuntu Hardy.
See https://code.fluendo.com/pigment/trac/ticket/247 for details.
