pidgin cannot see msn empticons from other msn users

Binary package hint: pidgin

In 10.10 pidgin could see almost every emoticon sent by other users.
On April 29th i have installed (not upgraded) the 11.04 and installed pidgin and the pidgin plugins found in the ubuntu software center, but now it cannot see other emoticons. It just snows a little "stop-like" label.
It also cannot see the buddy icons - avatars.
