Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

There are two consecutive horizontal menu separators (i.e., instances of SeparatorMenuItem) in the Help menu of pidgin 1:2.7.11-1ubuntu2 in Natty. I have observed this on three systems: a Lubuntu Natty amd64 system (created by installing the package lubuntu-desktop on a command-line only system installed from a Natty amd64 Alternate Install CD) in a Lubuntu Desktop session; a Natty i386 system running a classic desktop (session name "Ubuntu Classic (no effects)"); and a Natty i386 system with a Unity desktop. The attached screenshot is from the Lubuntu amd64 system.

Perhaps this is intentional, but if so, I don't see what purpose it serves. "About" is not really more related to "Translate This Application..." than it is related to "Online Help". Besides not serving a utilitarian purpose, the doubled menu separator is somewhat visually displeasing, at least in my opinion.

Obviously this is not a high priority bug. Perhaps it will turn out not to be considered a bug at all, though it does seem like one to me. Given its low priority and the interface freeze, it should probably not be fixed in Natty. But I'm reporting it so that if people agree it's a bug, the process of fixing it can more forward.

Since the menu items immediately below the two consecutive separators are Ubuntu-specific, I doubt this is an upstream bug. Furthermore, for the same reason, perhaps this bug exists in other applications besides Pidgin. That consideration was one of my motivations for reporting this as a bug, though other applications I've been using in Natty, such as the GIMP, do not appear to have this bug.
