pidgin <-> google talk video calling does not work

Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

Steps to reproduce:

1. create two gmail accounts.
2. log in to one gmail account using the web interface and install the video calling plugin for linux.
3. log in to the other account using pidgin.
4. make sure the accounts are on each others account lists.
5. attempt to call one account from the other, with the following results:

gmail webif user calls pidgin user: incoming video call message is displayed to pidgin user, clicking "accept" does nothing, ringtone sound continues to play until gmail webif user hits "cancel".

pidgin user calls gmail webif user: nothing at all happens on either end. no error messages or dialogue boxes are displayed.
