Bug Description
Binary package hint: pidgin
I've observed that pidgin blindly sets the auto-away mode as specified, regardless of the current state; an example being that it sets the Away status after the specified time even when current status is Extended Away
Why it is wrong?
Because auto-away is meant to automatically change online status to away; when changing to Away from Extended Away it actually lessens the status of being away, contrary to the original purpose.
What should happen instead?
Pidgin should detect higher Away modes like Extended, and prevent changing the mode on Auto Away, unless the AA is configured to set a higher state (e.g. Auto Away sets Extended Away, and the current state is Away or Online.)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Do you get the same with Maverick? Thanks in advance.
