Pidgin notification area icon is not transparent where it should be

Binary package hint: pidgin

If I set panel to transparent, pidgin's notification area icon is not transparent where it should be: the icon itself is paced into a grey rectangle.

And btw, if it counts, I am using composite support of metacity (set by gconf key) but not compiz.
