Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

A constant "connecting" state with no successful login and no reported error or failure messages occurs whenever I try to log in to Yahoo Messenger. All my other messengers seem to work fine. I'm using Ubuntu 8.10.

You may want to upgrade to Ubuntu 9.04. There is a release fix for
Pidgin that fixes it.
