Same thing here. I just upgraded to Pidgin 2.5.7 on Windows XP and I can't get the buddy icons to show... didn't find any options. I'm running on a 32-bit Intel platform, but I doubt it's that. Does it have something to do with the new yahoo protocols and all? To me it's not a problem, didn't even noticed it, but I convinced some people these days to drop yahoo messenger and google talk for pidgin, and now they've been all over me with the new protocol and now with this :)... I guess it's a new version problem :|

I am experiencing the same issue, but with 64-bit Windows 7 RC1. This was a fresh install, with .purple log and icons copied over from my Windows XP 32-bit box. My XP 32-bit laptop with an existing Pidgin installation experienced no issues with buddy icons after an overlay install of Pidgin 2.5.7. My only plugin is OTR.

Well, there's a note on the pidgin website saying they're very much aware of this problem and asking for people to stop posting this everywhere :). I guess they'll solve it in the future, so there's no point in just reminding everybody there's a problem... they're highly aware... meanwhile, I'm just happy pidgin works in the first place :)

Some people speculate it's about Yahoo changing it's servers and stuff. If that's the case, the online web services like http://invisible-scanner.com still work with that "Show avatar" link...
It should work both as a workaround and as a reimplementation

Also, all over the forums there are.deb files with a supposed patch for this. However, none of it fixed my problem :(
