Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

Use case testing for the message indicator raised the issue of chat windows automatically opening when a new message is received. Desired behavior is not to open the chat window, until the user selects it in the message indicator.

Ted, I just tested this bug with a friend of mine who uses AIM. We tested first on Intrepid and when I set Preferences/Interface/Conversation Window Hiding to "Always" then new IM windows were suppressed as we want. When I turned it to "Never" then the window would appear.

I switched over to Jaunty again, did the same test and got the exact same results.

When I tested with you earlier using Jabber/Gmail chat our result was that regardless of the value of that setting a new window would always appear.

So it seems to be a bug specifically in the Jabber/Gmail chat backend for Pidgin.

This is an upstream bug and there is no solution designed at the moment to fix it. Thus un-milestoning it for 9.04
