pidgin doesn't keep scrolling in irc chat

Binary package hint: pidgin

I'm at the ##1234567890 freenode chat right now and pidgin stops scrolling the message window at random intervals.

I have to scroll down manually to the end of the conversation in order to reenable auto-scrolling.

Using pidgin 2.5.2 on Ubuntu Hardy.

If you turn off smooth-scrolling, this problem does not happen.

I have the same problem with pidgin but it happens when using MSN.

It appars to be more likely to occur if i "say" something at exactly the same time as the other person whom I'm speaking to.
It happens more often in "fast" conversations.

I've don't use IM very often but I've noticed that almost always my chat window doesn't scroll to show the most current part of the conversation. I always have to scroll down.

I have an MSN IM account and I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64bit with kernel 2.6.31-20-generic
