Bug Description

If you set a personal status message in Pidgin, then change your status from the status indicator in the buddy list window itself, it retains your message. But if you use the fast user switching applet or notification area icon, Pidgin removes your status message.

While I'm using a Pidgin version I compiled myself (not the Ubuntu package), I'm pretty sure that I've already wondered earlier (when I used the Ubuntu package) why my status message was gone.

True, you can have several customized status messages, and you can assign them to a specific state (online/busy etc). But, these messages don't appear in the fast-user-switching-applet, so you can't select them. If you set a status message for "available" in pidgin, and then set status to "away" in fusa, then set the status back to "available" with fusa, the default status for available is used(the one without a message). It should default to the last used status message instead. OR the customized status messages should appear in fusa, so we can choose between them.

I am using pidgin 1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1 in Intrepid up-to-date.
fast-user-switch-applet 2.24.0-0ubuntu6.

We have no good support for custom statuses on FUSA. There isn't a good way to support them without adding a more generic solution, so it would require more design and development. Marking as wishlist, thank you for your report.

FUSA needs to have some options regarding status message.
Ie. "saved/recently used status messages", "new status message" and so on.

This is a patch to the package indicator-me, version 0.2.6-0ubuntu1 (the one present in Lucid).
It stores (separately) the status messages of Pidgin and of Mission Control, i.e. of Empathy, and it resets them at each status change through the FUSA.

It works well with Pidgin, since "indicator-me-service" is actually catching every status message change inside Pidgin, so the stored message is always the present one.

About Empathy, "indicator-me-service" catches only signals about status *type* changes, so you have to change the status type and the status message simultaneously to get the right behavior.

I think that a lot of people actually prefer the original behavior, but it would be nice to have a configurable option somewhere for those of us who think of the status message as a "personal message" or "mood".
