Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

I tough that it's been X.org, the nVIDIA driver and so on, that makes my computer to freeze for a couple of seconds - the whole time. But I've found that this actually only happens when Pidgin is running.

About the freezes - they are VERY annoying! When I write, the text that I'm writing doesn't show, so I can not be 100% sure that I write without spelling mistakes. And it takes to long time to wait for the text to show each time it freezes.

Nothing of this happens if Pidgin isn't running - And I do really want Pidgin running.

Please,
can you give the ~/.xsession-errors file, and can you search into system->admin->system logs-> syslog and kernlog informations about pidgin (segfault, error messages,...)

Which version of ubuntu do you have?
Can you post the result of:
apt-cache policy pidgin

Marked as incomplete until we have more information.

Hi,

Of course. Forgot about all that. Sorry.

Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex
2.6.27-7-generic

pidgin:
  Installerad: 1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1
  Kandidat: 1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1
  Versionstabell:
 *** 1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://se.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

But it seem to work now without any freezes. But I'm on the tun, will try more later. No, wait - I got some small freezes, still. But I will get back to you anyway.

If it still freezes, can you search into the kern.log, syslog, ... some information that may be interesting.

It still freezes.

But nor the syslog or kern.log say anything about Pidgin. But when the freezes happens this is what it says in syslog:

Nov 7 12:48:40 daniel-laptop kernel: [42452.733109] CE: hpet increasing min_delta_ns to 113904 nsec
Nov 7 12:50:01 daniel-laptop CRON[22468]: Sigfile not found
Nov 7 12:50:01 daniel-laptop /USR/SBIN/CRON[22474]: (root) CMD ([ -x /usr/sbin/update-motd ] && /usr/sbin/update-motd 2>/dev/null)
Nov 7 12:50:02 daniel-laptop CRON[22468]: Sigfile not found
Nov 7 12:51:15 daniel-laptop kernel: [42607.180144] CE: hpet increasing min_delta_ns to 170856 nsec

kern.log
Nov 7 12:48:40 daniel-laptop kernel: [42452.733109] CE: hpet increasing min_delta_ns to 113904 nsec
Nov 7 12:51:15 daniel-laptop kernel: [42607.180144] CE: hpet increasing min_delta_ns to 170856 nsec

ANd theese are also reported bugs. But they also show when Pidgin isn't running.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04? Thanks in advance.
