Confirming. Pidgin 1:2.5.1-0ubuntu3 fails to build from source on hppa (Full build log: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18371024/buildlog_ubuntu-intrepid-hppa.pidgin_1%3A2.5.1-0ubuntu3_FAILEDTOBUILD.txt.gz)

This seems not bound to pidgin, but to libtool:
I have the same kind of errors (prepending X's) on various projects building with libtool.
By using an old version of libtool, everything works fine.
One should close this bugreport and open a fresh one in the libtool package.
