Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

The following happens quite often to me. I go to somebody's launchpad page, mark the jabber address and middle-mouse-button-insert-click it into the "New instant message" dialog in pidgin. The thing is that, usually, this results in a space being added to the Jabber account of the person I am trying to contact. Instead of just ignoring the extra space at the end, pidgin does indeed try to contact that non-existant account. The result is an xmpp error code 404.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04? Thanks in advance.

I am still running Hardy and the problem is still present at least in this release. The instructions for reproducing this are IMHO quite clear so that anybody who wants to know about the status in the latest ubuntu distro can find out for themselves. Comments to confirm or disconfirm this to be still present in a later release are of course welcome.

Hi, can you still reproduce this bug? If so, please attach a debug log (pidgin --debug) to this report.
Also, please post the output from apt-cache policy pidgin.

Thanks

Yes, this still happens (btw, this is reasonably easy to test out yourself). Here is the relevant line from the debug log.
