Pidgin chat window border is excessively padded

Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

Ubuntu Hardy beta, pidgin 1:2.3.1-2ubuntu1

The pidgin chat window has a border of several pixels, between the edges of the window and the chat history textbox/listbox. When maximised this layout makes it harder than necessary to use the scrollbar, since one can't use the screen edge as a stop. When the window is thin several percent of the total width is wasted.

Hi, Thank you for reporting this issue.

Do you see the issue in hardy final?

Could you supply a screenshot to better explain the issue you describe?

Regards

Phil

As requested, one screenshot. Excessive padding marked in fuscia.

Additionally, if the room list (shown collapsed) were moved to the left side, then the scrollbar would be flush with the screen edge when the window was maximised.

Here's a mockup of how I would prefer it. On Hardy with the default them, there is still a 1 pixel dead zone beside the scroll bar. I believe it's due to bug 206837.
