Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

I have Kubuntu Linux 7.10 and use Pidgin 2.2.1 as my instant messenger. Lenguage is Spanish and one of most used letters is "y" that stays for "and". Well, every time I write "y", the system replaces it with "why" that is the pronounced name of the letter. So I have to go back to "why" and erase by hand the "w" and the "h" in excess.
I like Pidgin because it is a very good tool and this is the only thing I have noticed that don't works fine.

I'll bet this is the Text Replacement plugin. To fix the problem, go to Tools->Plugins and either disable the Text Replace plugin by unchecking it in the list (my preference, because I don't like machines deciding what I should have typed); or click on the plugin in the list and then the "Configure plugin" button, where you can delete any rewrites that don't suit you.

I'm putting this comment here in the hope it will be of help to other users who, like me, spend some considerable time trying to figure out where the rewrites were coming from and how to stop them.

Thank you for your commitment. I was using kopete and have checked now pidgin,
the Text Replace plugin is disabled but the bug is away, you get now "y for
y". I will now come back using pidgin.

Cordially,

Manfred
