Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

Ubuntu Gusty 7.10
pidgin 1:2.3.1-1~getdeb1
Expected font to revert to user defined default formatting after pasting text or a link.
Font changes to black after pasting text or a link, not to the default format that the user defined.

Example: User defines font color as green in default formatting preferences. User im's someone and text shows up green as expected. A link or text is pasted from a website or application. Text shows up formatted same as the source; this is expected too. User types new message after sending pasted text or link. The text format does not show up as the default formatting preferences. It shows up black. it continues to be black and not the default green the user chose.

Workaround: Copy and paste previous text within the im window with the correct format. New lines of text default to the copied text.

This has appeared in all versions of pidgin. I have previously used the repositories provided through synaptic.

This only appears to happen when using CTRL+V instead of right clicking and choosing Paste As Plain Text when pasting text formatted differently from your own. Often I have to use CTRL+UP to switch back to my text formatting but this is only useful IF I've posted in the instant messenger or chat window using that format.

Pasting as plain text does allow the color to stay the same. Middle clicking or ctrl+v changes the font to black still.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 or 9.04?

Issue is still reproducible.

Pidgin 1:2.5.5-1ubuntu8
Xfce 4.6.0
Xubuntu 9.04 RC

Copied text can be pasted in the user-defined font color by right-clicking and selecting "paste as plain text".

Middle clicking pastes text in black. Selecting "paste as plain text" after middle click pasting, pastes text in black.

Pasting in user-defined color can be reset by reopening the tab or window, but again, only by using the "paste as plain text" option.

Changed in pidgin (Ubuntu):
status: Incomplete → New
