Pidgin crashes after a long period without connectivity

Bug Description
If my internet is disconnected for a long time when Pidgin is still running and then i reconnect the internet Pidgin crashes.
It does not crash right after the internet is reconnected, but rather after you switch to any of its windows (it becomes grayed out for a few seconds, and then it dies).
If you don't switch to the window, it will *appear* to still be running, but you will not receive any notices nor new messages.
