It may possibly clash up with Klipper, whose Tray Icon is invisible during Pidgin crash.

Looks similar to a bug I was about to submit. Pidgin crashed when I tried to paste. (running Gnome though I do have KDE installed too)

I got picked up on a dupe I submitted. No KDE/Klipper here, though I do have Glipper installed. (I'm not sure if it's the clipboard stuff or the system tray icon that you are talking about.)

Huh? I have no clue what you are talking about. All I did is submit a
bug report. I never said anything about the stuff u mentioned.

I have the exact same problem using pidgin with glipper enabled with these versions:
ii glipper 0.95.1-3 A clipboard manager for GNOME and other window
ii pidgin 1:2.1.0-1ubuntu multi-protocol instant messaging client

This is on a gutsy desktop up to date as of Aug 12, 2007 @ 12:46PM PDT

I've not gotten this error anymore. I am now running Hardy and Pidgin
version 1:2.4.0-1ubuntu2
