Pidgin crashes with IRC plugins enabled

Bug Description

steps to reproduce :
1 - install quantal desktop using standard install media
2 - install pidgin and some additional plugins :
sudo apt-get install pidgin*
3 - start pidgin
4 - add an account or two
5 - on the tools menu, select plugins
6 - check the checkbox to enable the irc helpper plugin
7 - check the checkbox to enable the irssi features plugin
8 - open terminal
9 - run sudo do-release-upgrade -d
10 - reboot
11 - start pidgin
Steps to restore pidgin :
1 - be sure that all instances of pidgin and other libpurple based IM clients are closed
2 - open a gnome terminal or similar
3 - run sudo rm -rf .purple
4 - start pidgin
5 - don't enable these plugins now else Pidgin will crash again
