The Pidgin ticket https://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/16467 indicates that this is a pidgin-skype bug which has been fixed. Please just package up the latest SVN version.

I worked it arounb by installing Vivid version of pidgin-skype and pidgin-skype-common.

I found the two .deb here:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/vivid/amd64/pidgin-skype-common/20140930+svn665+dfsg-1

Changed in pidgin-skype (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → High
