sipe plugin in 12.04 does not connect to lync server

Bug Description
Sipe plugin to pidgin in 11.10 worked very well. After upgrading to 12.04 it no longer works. Keep getting the password dialogue and the only error presented is:
<email address hidden>,no\niclan disconnected
read error
A number of my colleagues are experiencing the same as they upgrade to 12.04.
