Jaunty: NotifyOSD doesn't display the first message from pidgin whilest a movie is in full screen mode

SYMPTOMS: If you receive a message in pidgin but the pidgin window is closed rather than getting a message from NotifyOSD the window appear behind the full screen movie and you get no idea that there is a message until a second message is sent.

CAUSE:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Install jaunty on a test box
2. Start Pidgin open a bonjour account
3. Open a full screen movie in totem
4. Send a message from another box use bonjour
5. Note no notification for the first message
6. Send a second message
7. Note the notifyosd now produces a message.

This maybe a bug in Pidgin but it was the notify window that was missing.

We'll try to confirm the bug with a test.

However, please note that ultimately, the expected behavior with the do-not-disturb mode is to not show any message at all.

This is a bug against pidgin (libnotify-plugin). notify-osd shows every valid notification sent to it. notify-osd does not "swallow" any notification.

I've noticed the same behaviour lately, using Jaunty and the pidgin 1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1.1 (according to aptitude).

When i have a fullscreen movie playing on my primary screen it will not show the first message on the OSD. The second message will be shown, which only adds text to the chat window.

Dave, is this happening only when having a fullscreen application running?

Because it looks like a duplicate of bug 363108

And, yes, I know this one was reported before, but the definition of the latter is more generic.

Can you reproduce it when you're not running a fullscreen app?

It shows up in pidgin which I have as fullscreen. So you see a new tab appear and it is blue.

Other than that there is still no actual notification.

Feel free to do with the bug as you see fit.
