Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin-hotkeys

The project seems to be dead so I post the bug also here:

Original link:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1869956&group_id=121046&atid=689096

Description:
When I press the combination I have set for "Read Meassage" (Winkey + K) it
goes to the right window but does not switch to the right tab.
In the past it worked as intended, it started behaving like this after a
certain pidgin version around 2.0

Solution:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1945780&group_id=121046&atid=689098
I created a patch to tackle this problem (also attached)

Is there any possibility to be included as a patch in the debian package (and possibly forwarded upstream, if there is anyone in the official page still dealing with the project).

Thanks

I made patch about this bug and submitted it in the official tracker
of the project.
The project seems to be dead though, so you could at least add it as a
patch in the debian package

All info about the patch, here:

hey Nick, so are you packaging this yourself?

Yes, I am trying to make a version of pidgin-hotkeys which addresses all the issues (bugs here and in debian) that have been gathered all this time.
From what I have seen the project is dead upstream, so I am trying to make a package like a new upstream release (of course i cannot change the official version, but this is not a problem)

sounds great. I just found this project, and I am excited to have hotkeys for pidgin.

One question, why can't you change the official version?

In order to change the upstream version of a program someone has to be the author of it and make an official release.
Since, I just a user and the (hopefully the future) official maintainer I cannot do that.

Since, the project seems dead, I could try to adopt it upstream but I am not sure about the procedure needed to do so.

First I want to publish and test my new package (with all the fixes in place) and check that everything works.
Then I could try to see what could be done for the upstream situation.

As a bottom line, it is not a problem the fact that I cannot change the upstream version, the packages will have debian versions attached

Hey Nick, have you made any progress on this?

It looks like the debian maintainer and the upstream maintainer are one and the same. If you are waiting for someone from debian or ubuntu to give you the go ahead, I don't think that will happen.

I figure you should just fork the project for the time being. Maybe make it a launchpad project.

Hello to all,

Sorry for the long inactivity time, but extra work has come up.
You can find a new version of the hotkeys plugin in my ppa (just for karmic for now, if someone is interested for lucid, let me know).
Instructions on how to add my repository can be found here:
https://launchpad.net/~andrikos/+archive/ppa

I would really appreciate if someone tests the package and reports back any problems found.

Nick

Testing on Karmic:
The program switches tabs fine. It will also switch to the window if at least one of the pidgin windows is in focus.

It won't bring the window to focus if you have a different program with focus, but it will switch to the right tab and bring the window back up from minimization.
