Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin-facebookchat

When I use facebook plugin, pidgin hangs. I am using an AMD64 architecture and connecting through a SOCKS proxy, if that matters.

Running pidgin -d, I get - before the program hangs completely needing kill -9 - a list of messages like this one:

(14:47:47) dns: DNS query for 'profile.ak.fbcdn.net' queued
(14:47:47) facebook: buddy [CUT] has a new buddy icon at http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/[CUT FOR PRIVACY].jpg

and then this:

dns[10303]: nobody needs me... =(
dns[10305]: nobody needs me... =(
dns[10304]: nobody needs me... =(
dns[10306]: nobody needs me... =(

Same error messages. Using SVN 757

What worked for me was starting pidgin with no-login (pidgin -n), adding another account (MSN/ICQ/etc), then re-enabling facebook plugin.

Maybe fbook plugin doesn't do some necessary first run inits? I was only getting the error message when I built pidgin fresh, then built fbook plugin, and ran for first time with it enabled.

Nope. Worked for a bit (logged in, pulled in profile pics/statuses), until I tried to initiate a fbook chat, and now back to crashing upon startup.

I had the same error earlier today and have since reverted back to Empathy. Before I uninstalled Pidgin, though, I started an issue report on the pidgin-facebookchat site and the plugin's developer has asked for a debug log to look at what's going on, so if any of you would like to follow this up directly with him, please go to http://code.google.com/p/pidgin-facebookchat/issues/detail?id=841 and have at it :).
